Discord Colored Text Generator
A free Discord ANSI color text generator. Write in color, add highlight backgrounds, rainbow effects and custom color sequences, then copy a ready-to-paste ansi code block straight into Discord. No signup, no manual escape codes.
Your text is too long or is formatted heavily, it will not display properly on Discord!
Colored text does not render in the Discord mobile app and appears as plain monochrome text there. It is visible on Discord desktop and web.
Type here to edit. The field shows how your message looks in Discord. Click Copy text to copy the ANSI code into a message.
How Discord Colored Text Works
The basics of ANSI colored text on Discord
Colored text on Discord is not standard Markdown. Discord renders ANSI escape codes inside a special ```ansi code block, which lets you color the text and add colored highlight backgrounds. Every color is a number code, and the escape characters are invisible, which is exactly why most people use a generator instead of typing them by hand.
Text colors and highlight colors you can use
The generator above gives you 8 text colors (gray, red, green, yellow, blue, pink, cyan and white) plus 8 matching highlight backgrounds. Click any swatch to apply it to your text. Highlight colors work like a marker on a page and are great for calling out a word or a whole line.
Why a generator beats typing ANSI codes by hand
The escape character that starts every color code cannot be typed on a normal keyboard, and every colored run needs a reset code after it so the color does not bleed into the rest of your message. The generator builds all of these codes for you. You just type your text, pick your colors, and click Copy text.
Rainbow and custom color sequences
Click Rainbow text or Rainbow background to cycle each character through the colors of the rainbow in sequence. For full control, build a custom color sequence: click colors to add them to the sequence, then apply it to the text you have selected. Each character takes the next color in your sequence and then repeats.
Combine colored text with bold and underline
Colored text blocks can only be combined with bolding and underlining through the generator. Discord needs extra style codes stacked in the right order, and this cannot be done manually in a reliable way. Select your text and click Bold or Underline to add the style on top of your colors.
Colored text is visible on desktop and web, not mobile
Colored text only renders on Discord desktop and web. In the Discord mobile app, ANSI colors are not supported, so the message appears as plain monochrome text. Generate your colored text here and send it from a desktop or web client to keep the colors.
Where to use colored text on Discord
Colored text works in any message or server announcement. It always renders as a code block, so it is best used for short, punchy lines: announcement titles, giveaway rules, command help, or a key sentence you want to stand out. For long paragraphs, plain text with bold or underline is easier to read.
Tips for readable colored text
- Use dark text on bright highlight backgrounds and bright text on dark backgrounds for contrast.
- Keep one message to a few colors. A rainbow on every line is hard to read.
- Use highlights sparingly, like a marker, so the important part still pops.
